In this occasion, we are going to discuss about how to operate your SUP when catching the waves and bumps. You will do the flatwater drills to help you to manage the ocean challenges when you run your stand up paddle boarding.

The challenge is quite higher when it comes to the ocean downwind. You will need to do the drills since it is the perfect regime to handle these challenges.

With your instructor, you will learn how to do the quick accelerating strokes, pause, glide, and brace the paddle to maintain your stability while gliding to the waves and bumps kauai river.

When you are doing the downwinder in the light winds, you will end up doing the accelerating strokes. So, just like we mentioned before, you will be focusing on the accelerating strokes, then pause, and then glide over.

For the light wind challenges, you dont have to move your feet back. Instead, you can manage your parallel stance close to the center of the board. This kind of drill will be done in the flat water so that you dont have to worry about the risks. This will break your habit of paddling with long and powerful strokes.

The downwinders are different with what you learn when you first learned the SUP. It is about the quick sprints and glides. The quick strokes are the key to manage the downwinders. With the right technique, you will be able to glide for about the same amount of time. You will only paddle for about half of the time you normally do.

Keep in mind that it is the advance training so that you will need to learn the basic first if you want to manage the challenges of the waves and the bumps. Try to skim as far out to the side as possible to provide the stability. Skim the paddle lightly over the surface. The key here is to skim it calmly so that you wont break the water. When you break it, you might fall to the water. The skimming activity is just like having the third leg handling the kauai river. You will have more control and stability when you nail it.

When you lose your balance, the thing you can o to handle this is to lean on the paddle and pus your center of gravity back. Direct your body to the center of the board so that you will have the stable measure on your board.

Keep in mind that the winds can be stronger and the bumps can also be more aggressive. The drills from your instructor will be very useful to handle the challenges later.
